Memorial Day Weekend Miami 2013 Events and Parties Its 2013 and its Memorial Day Weekend is coming upon Miami once again. We’re a little late with this list this year with it because its getting harder and harder to find these events, but we hope it paints an idea of what’s going on in the city during the weekend. We are including all the hip-hop parties of course, and a few EDM and non-music events in case you want to change it up. This is a list going down the week of Memorial Day Weekend in Miami that we hand picked for your enjoyment. So without further delay, here is our 2013 Memorial Weekend Event Guide for Miami, which features model Kaylin Garcia on the graphic, who we shot recently in a very American-esque outfit (we’ll post the full shoot soon). 7 Years Ago Since Elvis Duran & The Morning Show Came to Y100 Miami

Yesterday, Elvis Duran and the morning show celebrated seven years since taking over the morning radio slot at Y100. What preceeded them was Kenny & Footy, and they were received with A LOT of negative reviews from radio execs and co-workers that thought that bringing the show to Miami to replace the previous locally broadcasted show would not work because simply, the show is based in New York City and broadcasts live from New York. Well, they added Froggy (who was already working at Y100) back then when they first started, and seven years later…here they are. Still on the air and kickin’. While Elvis Duran had originally started with a “morning zoo” format, they’ve evolved to become more than that and have become one of the most successful and respected shows in radio history. A big congrats to the the South Florida crew and the New York City staff that keeps this show in Miami and we wish you many more years of broadcasting in our market. Listen to Elvis Duran & The Morning Show weekdays Monday thru Friday from 6AM till 10AM on Y100 and iHeartRadio.

O Cinema Seeks Movie Theater Expansion in Wynwood

Movie-goers look forward to the new proposal by O Cinema for their location in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. The independent cinema announced on Monday that their non-profit organization has received an $100,000 grant from ArtPlace America. The grant will help O Cinema expand its vision of creating a three-screening platform for movie-goers. More specifically, the grant will help O Cinema take its first step of their three-screening platform by expanding their movie screenings outdoors. This will provide audiences with a choice of atmosphere for their special movie occasions. In addition to the ArtPlace America grant, O Cinema has also applied for a grant with the Knight Foundation. As recent as last week, the independent cinema was announced as one of the finalist for the Arts Challenge Grant from the Knight Foundation and if they receive funding expect an additional indoor screening room to be housed in theater; this will complete the organizations vision for a three-screening platform. O Cinema co-founder Kareem Tabsch stated in an article on Miami New Times that the ArtPlace America grant given to O Cinema will also be an investment to the exterior design of the facility. In addition, representatives of O Cinema have discussed the redevelopment of an open lot surprisingly in congruence with the organization. The lot is expected to be turned into a bike haven, for guest to enjoy this open space with a few tables and areas to park their on-foot vehicles. The organization is also looking into partnering with a local youth organization to conduct left-over space into some sort of vertical gardens. Don’t expect this to be the last source of growth for O Cinema and its independent film movement. Tabsch and colleague Marthell are also looking to improve the Theater with higher definition of audio and visual equipment. O Cinema’s upgrade plan could be in effect as early as this year if they are awarded with the Knight Arts Challenge funds. Source: Cultist
