I want to send a big CONGRATULATIONS shout out to Sweat Records for winning a $150,000 grant by the Knights Arts Challenge headed by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. They were one of about a dozen or so recipients of a grant from this year’s competition. Since opening up shop in 2005, Sweat Records has definitely become a staple in Miami’s music scene. They receive the award with much promise and one of the highlighted projects under their grant include the creation and support of a locally based “e-commerce site” focused on South Florida made music. Here’s what the foundation wrote:
This grant will help Sweat Records, a store and community resource that offers live performances, film screenings and an art gallery, strengthen and expand its cultural offerings. Sweat Records will hold additional workshops on a variety of cultural and educational topics. In addition, Sweat Records will develop an e-commerce site showcasing music and other goods made in South Florida.
Sweat Records was established in 2005 in order to unite and strengthen Miami’s growing independent music scene. After surviving Hurricane Wilma destroying its first location, Sweat has settled into its permanent home: a full storefront, organic coffee bar and event space next door to Churchill’s Pub in Little Haiti. Sweat supports local artists and presents over 100 diverse events every year to further enrich Miami’s cultural offerings. Visit www.sweatrecordsmiami.com.
Watch the video below below for a little further info. Once again, congrats to the Sweat Records family. This only proves that positivity and dedication to your local community DOES pay off in the long run.

Yeah, LMS is a problem. Yeah, he’s not following the blueprint that most artists are following nowadays – but that’s what makes him who he is. Easily one of the most commanding voices in hip-hop, he has the potential to go far. Let’s see where he takes it. Here’s a new one featuring Saheed, Reks and Sylvia James – produced by Ozny.

Off LMS’s The Last Shall Be First release

LMS is one of those artists that stand apart from the normal wave of emcees – especially when South Florida is put in the picture. Not only because of his dominating vocal abilities, but because of his unique and always enlightening subject matter. If you’ve followed The305.com since the beginning a few years back, you’ll know that LMS is no stranger to the site as we’ve featured him tons of times. Well, he’s back again with hopefully the first of many more new songs to come. This song right here is called “Blind”. It’s a bit older, but we’re just now catching wind of the song last week and its definitely a powerful record. Listen/download below…

The first single off the mixtape, ‘Love My Gangsta’, has been serviced to urban radio and mix shows nationally. Grown and Gangsta is a combination of the rappers previous work as well as some of her most recent unreleased work. Grown and Gangsta includes guest appearances from B.G., C-Murder, Ghostface Killah, Brisco, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Kymani Marley, and many more.

Mista Mac jumps on this “Tornado” track. Apparently it was like a demo/reference track for Rihanna and Mac jumped on it. That’s NOT Rihanna singing on this, it was a song demo being shopped to her. But regardless, listen and see what Poe Boy’s future is looking like…

I been waiting for this video since the first time I heard this song months ago. And I can say that Phatz and the Valholla family really did it up with a quality video that pretty much hits the nail on the head in terms of playing around with the theme of “celebrating.” Then at the end you have a clip for bonus track “A Great Day In Carol City”. The video is directed by Phatz (under alias Mr. McFly) and Vince The Prince. Camera work was done by Russo. Wardrobe & props provided by MJA Fashion and Filthy Riches, LLC. Clothing provided by Luxury Tax and Bird Club Clothing.

Nak is definitely up next. Here’s his newest mixtape which dropped a couple days ago. Shout out to iBlog126. Download link and tracklisting below
