Here’s a print series Shepard Fairey did to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Dalai Lama. These were limited to 500 pieces and just simple flew and sold out immediately. But its dope to see Shepard continue with his style of art. He’s not from Miami, but definitely has tons of ties in the city and participates in many Art Basel events every year (including Primary Flights). See more of his work and other on sale items over atwww.obeygiant.com

Real Dope. I’m not even posting this cuz of the blatant usage of the female body. But its a real dope shot. This shit is art. Shot by Thierry le Goues. Spotted at NSF56K
This project was made possible by a grant from the Miami-Dade Parks and Recreations Department. Located at A.D Barnes park on the Northeast corner of Bird rd and 72nd Avenue, this piece will be on exhibit until May 2010.
Babylon is not an exact place, but rather a system of self-absorbed individuals who worship idols and live decadent lifestyles at the expense of the poor. The word “conserve” is meant to address our out of control consumption of natural resources. The functioning birds nest represents life continuing on after us. Also as a tribute to all of those suffering from the recent earthquake disasters, hopefully this work will remind viewers how fortunate we are.
This grant was awarded to five local Artist’s to create original works in five different parks throughout Miami-Dade county. One goal of the project was to offer the Artist an opportunity to expand beyond the realm of their usual medium.
From the makers of O.H.W.O.W., A-ron Bondaroff and Al Moran have launched the newly created BAR, at the old PS-14 spot in Downtown Miami. Basically its a little lounge/bar type place and described as a “clubhouse for the creative community”. Every two months or so, they will have a new artist that decorates the place and the first artist in line was South Florida based Freegums (aka Alvaro Ilizarbe). They opened the space on January 18th, but should be up for another month or so…

In what has to be my favorite and most meaningful interview I’ve ever done, I recently got a chance to talk with New York City based and famed hip-hop photographer Jonathan Mannion. I mean, if you’re a fan of hip-hop then I can tell you that YOU HAVE seen his work at some point or another. And me, as a photographer in a similar realm, speaking to him and interviewing him was definitely an honor and a great experience for me.
Jonathan is working with Tanqueray and is contributing to a campaign and website called WeResistSimple.com. Basically it’s an online platform (a blog of sorts) that is giving artists like him and other celebrities an outlet to speak their mind and speak their thoughts.
Well, I caught up with Jonathan to discuss the new blog site and campaign. Then of course, we also got to know him a little better – as well asked him a few other questions like his involvement with Miami and Miami based artists like Trina, Trick Daddy and Rick Ross. And we even slid in a The Carter IV question. Read below….an interview with photographer Jonathan Mannion.
Kiki Valdes – Secret Knowledge & Hidden Chaos
Here’s a video feature on local Miami based artist and painter, Kiki Valdes. I’ve known Kiki for years and he’s contributed so much to not only Miami’s art scene, but Miami’s hip-hop scene. Press play for a little insight on what Kiki Valdes is all about.
Ranked #26 in the world (of a top 100 list) by respected art publication, Juxtapoz magazine. O.H.W.O.W. is always on the edge of things and always doing unique showings. Definitely a great look for them. Here’s what the article said:
26. O.H.W.O.W Gallery, Miami, Florida
This gallery doesn’t get the recognition it often deserves. Located in the middle of Miami, O.H.W.O.W doesn’t just shine during December’s Art Basel, but routinely puts out off-beat exhibits and books (it’s a publishing house too) with big names like Neckface, David Lynch, Keiichi Nitta, and more.
Polaroid has decided to bring back their consumer-based instant film products, which I surely thought was done for good. But apparently, they saw that there was a need for it. Don’t be surprised if Lady Gaga, the new Creative Director at Polaroid (vomit) is the one behind this resurrection…or not. Apparently it will be a modern version of their OneStep camera called the PIC 1000 (priced under $100USD) and will use Polaroid 1000 Film. Here’s what the people at Lady Gaga’s place of employment said:
Supported by a strategic relationship with Summit Global Group, a longtime Polaroid partner, and The Impossible Project, the manufacturer of classic film for Polaroid film cameras, Polaroid will offer a completely redesigned, modern version of the Polaroid OneStep camera, the PIC 1000. The PIC 1000 will be available in a range of fun colors and use classic Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film to produce the brand’s classic white border instant pictures. The Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film will work with both classic and new Polaroid cameras and will be offered in packs of 10 pictures. The new classic PIC 1000 camera and instant color film will be available at national retailers in 2010. -Polaroid Press Release

Brian M. Viveros (www.brianmviveros.com), is an amazing artist based out of Riverside, California. His work speaks for itself. Its vibrant, yet dark as can be. He’s been featured on tons of blogs, even Kanye made a post or two about his work. I was actually put on to Brian’s work via Cool & Dre. Click below to see all these amazing pieces from Brian done mostly between 2008-2009.

Designed by artist/designer Johnny Robles with local design firm Morfiq. See more of their work at www.morfiqstudio.com.
(HighSnobiety) - Ex-professional Canadian snowboarder turned photographer, designer, filmmaker, and all around good dude Randy Ross recently went on a trip to Cuba and came away with some amazing images for a Che series.
“As cliche as it has become, the icon of Che Guevara is everywhere there…people hold on to it for dear life while they live in the hardships and circumstances created by that revolution. They really believe, its rather inspiring. Its a humbling inspirational collision of pride and real life.” Check out Berkela Motion Picture’s column on Rad Collector for an interview with Randy Ross on the series.
