Last week during the beginning of the Art Basel craziness, the Miami Heat’s Amar’e Stoudemire stopped by the W Hotel on South Beach to participate in a talk hosted by Surface Magazine in an intimate garden area adorned with the sounds of the ocean’s waves crashing into the sand.
In the talk, Amar’e disclosed his aspirations to grow as a true art collector and revealed that he has been collecting for years now. Accompanied by Spencer Bailey (editor-in-chief of Surface on the left) and Robbie Antonio (art collector and designer developer, pictured on the right), the talk covered many topics in art including the thought process in buying pieces, what to do with art they’ve regretted purchasing, how the expression of one’s fashion is closely related to art and real estate development.
Personal highlights from the talk include Amar’e’s desire to try to become friends with some of the artists before investing in purchasing their work to really get a feel for their life and their artistic inspirations. And with Robbie, it was great to see his take on art and fashion from the perspective of someone who has been able to build an properties that have been aligned with fashion brands such as Armani and Versace.
