A week or so ago, I was given a chance to try out a preview version of the upcoming LG G4 smartphone (which you can pre-register for info here). I’ve been seeing a few influencers on Instagram given a chance to try it out before the general public release and the main detail you heard buzzing around was about the phone’s amazing camera and the quality it brings. Sure enough I was surprised when I received an invite to also preview the phone as well – especially since I had a pretty interesting week ahead filled with interesting events and traveling…meaning, lots of great picture taking opportunities with the G4.
So to kicks things off, I got a chance to attend an Urban Decay private event at the Thompson Hotel on South Beach, and then catch a flight immediately after the event to New York City. I also got a chance to stop by Hoboken (New Jersey) as well. I used all of those diverse backdrops to test out the phone and to see if the camera (and the phone’s usability) lives up to the expectations I’ve been seeing on social media and on various tech sites. Not only did it surpass those expectations, but I’ve pretty much converted to become a full time G4 and Android user because of it. The ease of use and the practicality of a lot of the native apps, just makes this phone a great asset to my professional photography work flow and personal life. But best of all, it really has a great camera with its f/1.8 lowlight capabilities, manual mode, image stabilization and 16-megapixels of power (and 8-megapixels in the front camera for great high quality “selfies”). Below is a close-up of the camera and the main control buttons for the phone.

The LG G4 is set to release later this month in May and throughout June depending on your city and you can pre-register here and enter for a chance to win a T-Mobile LG G4 Advance-Release Edition. They will be giving away one phone per day until May 25th.
LG and T-Mobile have also partnered up and have sent out two trucks on a preview tour around the country. The goal is to drive pre-registration sign ups and to encourage readers to follow the @G4Preview handle so they can follow the preview tour.
And below, you can see some of the photos I took with the phone on Miami Beach and in Hoboken, New Jersey. The detail, the colors and the overall picture quality is nothing like I’ve ever seen on a phone. Check the photos out below…

And finally…trying out some low-light product shots in a dark bedroom with only “TV” lighting. Great results and low-light performance.
