With all these Cuba and United States talks and embargo lifts, everyone is wondering how Fidel feels and hell, if he’s even alive to witness what his brother is doing. And as you know, this is an extremely relevant issue to Miami’s huge Cuban population.
Well, Fidel released a statement yesterday that basically says that he supports the decisions his brother (the president) is making and supports peaceful talks despite not being a fan of the United States’ politics. Here’s the statement:
As reported by CBS4’s news partner the Miami Herald, Castro sent a message to the University Students Federation regarding the issue.
“I don’t trust the policy of the United States, nor have I exchanged a word with them, but this does not mean I reject a pacific solution to the conflicts.”
“Any peaceful or negotiated solution to the problems between the United States and the peoples or any people of Latin America that doesn’t imply force or the use of force should be treated in accordance with international norms and principles.”
“We will always defend cooperation and friendship with all the peoples of the world, among them our political adversaries.”
“The president has taken the pertinent steps in accordance with his prerogatives and the powers given to him by the National Assembly the Communist Party of Cuba”
