You’ve seen it. The big ole’ wooden rollercoaster off I-95 near the Hollywood and Dania Beach exits. Well, yesterday after decades of operation, the entertainment complex known as Boomers! (which housed the rollercoaster) was shut down to make room for a brand new shopping center that will be called DaniaLive. The complex also used to be known as Grand Prix Race-O-Rama.
Above is an incredible photo by Jonathan Hawkins from the perspective of the front of the rollercoaster, which was called the Dania Beach Hurricane and was once known as the tallest roller coaster south of Atlanta and then as the biggest wooden rollercoaster in the state of Florida. The rollercoaster was shut down in 2011 because it wasn’t profitable anymore. Developers of DaniaLive will tear down the rollercoaster later this year.
