HistoryMiami, a Smithsonian Affiliate museum in Miami, FL, is proud to present Ladies and Gentlemen… The Beatles! exhibition from Oct. 10, 2014 through Jan. 18, 2015, a celebration of the fascination America has had with “Beatlemania” and the four lads from Liverpool during the past fifty years.
Ladies & Gentlemen… The Beatles! is a traveling exhibition curated by The GRAMMY Museum® and Fab Four Exhibits that explores the impact The Beatles’ arrival had on American pop culture, including fashion, art, advertising, media and music, from early 1964 through mid-1966 – when British boy band was at its peak. On display will be more than 400 pieces of memorabilia, records, rare photographs, tour artifacts, video, and instruments from private collectors and The GRAMMY Museum®. It even includes an oral history booth where visitors can leave their own impressions of the timeless group.
IMAGINE: Fifty years ago on Feb. 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived on American soil for the very first time. After an inaugural performance in New York City, on Sunday, Feb. 16, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr flew down to Miami Beach for their second television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The performance was broadcast live from the Napoleon Ballroom of the Deauville Hotel to over 73 million viewers – a television record at the time – and in that instant “Beatlemania” came alive.
LET IT BE: The HistoryMiami exhibition will open to the public with an Opening Reception and feature several public programs including: two free Family Fun Days and a Beatle brunch co-sponsored with Magic 102.7 FM. By no means did the British invasion say “Hello, Goodbye” but has been here in America ever since The Beatles first touched ground State-side some 50 years ago. Surely, nobody could have “imagined” the imprint they would leave, but this exhibition is a celebration of the world’s great decision to just “Let It Be.”
Ladies and Gentlemen… The Beatles! exhibition is sponsored in part by SunTrust Bank, MCM, The Lynx Companies, Magic 102.7 FM, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Division of Historical Resources and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
