Let the drama begin. Not even 12 hours since the Miami Heat lost to the Spurs in the finals and the rumors and opt-out stories are running alive and well.
Aside from Shane Battier’s guaranteed retirement, there’s no exact definition on who will not be on next year’s team. We can lose nearly half the team at a worse case scenario, or…”best case” scenario depending how you’re looking at it.
But now, according to Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears, forward-center Chris “Birdman” Andersen will indeed opt-out of his contract (turning down $1.45 million in the process) to become a free agent and explore his options. Chris took a huge paycut to be with the Heat but now that he’s proven himself as an asset, other teams might be offering a nice paycheck for the big man.
Chris hasn’t publicly made a statement but if Yahoo Sports is correct, expect word soon.
