The City Of Miami is taking a nod from a few other big cities in the world (ie. NYC, London) and have begun finalizing plans on a 200 security camera system that will monitor the city 24-7 within a high-tech command center housed with 200 closed-circuit television screens.
The price of the camera system would be about $700,000 and the locations have yet to be revealed, but half of the cost will be funded in part by the federal government.
Cameras may also be tagged with ShotSpotter technology, aimed to trigger cameras to zoom in within 10 meters of where a possible gunshot might have gone off.
And then of course you have organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida that have and will definitely fight against the implementation of these cameras in the notion that this is police abusing their powers. However, local police stand by their claims that this will help catch criminals in the city.
