Yikes. So um, former Bad Boy Records rapper Mase, was recently and allegedly sued by local Miami model Stephanie Rao for Mase’s use of the image above. The photo was taken in December by photographer Kittrell Cage and was allegedly swiped a few days later by rapper Mase to release his single “Why Can’t We” on his Soundcloud page.
According to TMZ, she is suing for the sum of $60,000 and damages in the amount of $180,000 as the song had been released nationally and internationally and currently appears on 40+ websites.
This is is kinda’ crazy as photo usage is like the wild wild west for mixtapes, websites, blogs and other small time outlets and etc. But when you have a former platinum selling rapper putting your image on a commercially released product – things get a little sketchy, especially since it was on his independent Soundcloud page. And as of right now, iTunes shows a different cover (sans Stephanie) when you try to buy the single.
So let’s see how this story develops.
