The Stage Miami Hosts “Stones Throw Weekend” with Peanut Butter Wolf and Dam-Funk April 25 & 26
L.A. independent label founder and label artist to spin hip-hop DJ sets at Design District venue and celebrate DJ Heron’s birthday
Miami, FL – Legendary hip-hop DJ, producer and Stones ThrowRecords label head Peanut Butter Wolf will take over the decks at The Stage Miamion April 25 during Beats & Rhymes Friday, a night that will also be a celebration of DJ Heron’s birthday. The following evening, April 26, Stones Throw artist Dam-Funk will take over the DJ booth for during his exclusive South Florida appearance in support of his latest releases Higher and 7 Days of Funk, collaboration with Snoopzilla AKASnoop Dogg.
“I’m excited to share the west-coast turntable and production talents of Peanut Butter Wolf and Dam-Funk with the 305,” says Harold Mazzotti, AKA DJ Heron and CEO of www.AddictiveAffairs.com, one of the weekend’s organizers and presenting sponsors. “I have much respect for their works and contributions to hip-hop during the 1990s and 2000s and am looking forward to having them play at The Stage.” Friday’s event also features special guest Louie Arson.
On Dam-Funk, Johann Torres, The Stage’s talent buyer and CEO of co-sponsors DNA Entertainment, offers: “The moment I heard 7 Days of Funk last year, I knew he would be a good fit for our club. Being a life-long fan of west coast hip-hop and their particular sound, I thought it would be cool to bring Dam Funk to Miami, followed byWarren G May 16.”
The San Jose, CA native Peanut Butter Wolf began his career in music during high school, selling mix tapes of tracks from his record collection. His professional debut came in 1989 with the release of his collaboration with Lyrical Prophecy called “You Can’t Swing This” on the All Good Vinyl label. He also performed with the Pharcyde,House of Pain and Nas with the late MC Charizma. His subsequent solo releasePeanut Butter Breaks (Heyday Records) and compilation appearances (includingReturn of the DJ and Lunar Props in the 90s) raised his profile significantly, leading to collaboration with Kool Keith and the foundation of Stones Throw.
The eclectic multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Dam-Funk (born Damon Riddick) hails from Pasadena, CA and grew up listening to everything from prog rock to funk. During the 2000s, his session work on the synthesizer appeared on releases byMaster P (I Got the Hook Up), MC Eiht (Tha8t’z Gangsta) and the self-titled AllFrum Tha i record. He debuted as Dam-Funk with a remix Baron Zen’s remake of The Gap Band’s “Burn Rubber on Me” in 2007, which caught Peanut Butter Wolf’s attention and led to him signing with Stones Throw.
