In 2013, Miami put on its cocktail dress. We saw bars like Blackbird, Lagniappe, and Broken Shaker flourish. After a pop-up stunt, Broken Shaker reopened its doors permanently in November of 2012. The brainchild of Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta who formed bar lab in 2009, Broken Shaker paved the way for other pop-up alternatives like Eating House, which came right after. It’s been a whole year that we’ve had the choice to go and sip on gin infused punch and cocktails mixed with freshly grown herbs (right from their backyard) while sitting poolside without having the fleeting feeling of an end date.
If you’re thinking poolside means some ritzy pool on South Beach while pure pretentiousness happens all around you in the form of tables with high priced bottle tags, think again. The Broken Shaker is far away and in-between the usual madness of SoBe. Tucked away in the Freehand Hostel off Indian Creek, it’s so Miami and so unlike anything else in Miami at the same damn time.
