Hip-hop shows have always had a mixed response in Miami. And ever since the “New York” and “East Coast” style of hip-hop has been on the decline, these shows have been almost non-existent. Or if a couple decent artists would get booked in Miami, the promoters pretty much tanked the event and those promoters were never heard from again.
Well, what Addictive Affairs and DNA Entertainment has done over at The Stage has been quite magical. Not only are they consistently bringing artists recognized from that golden era of hip-hop to put together quality shows, but they seemingly gave The Stage a breath of fresh air via a new avenue of talent that a lot of people seemed to have forgotten about. There will always be an audience for Raekwon, De La Soul, Chuck D, Black Rob, Styles P, 9th Wonder, Buckshot and more. This past Art Basel they even put together a three-day line-up featuring De La Soul, Ghostface Killah and Black Violin.
So a big salute to Addictive Affairs and DNA for filling a much needed void in Miami and helping bring down some quality acts to Miami’s music scene that is in much need of diversity. And for keeping giving the golden era of hip-hop a platform, and more local artists a chance to open up for them as well.
