The NBA Christmas schedule was noticeably missing some oomph. The injury bug has bitten really hard all around the league and caused for yesterday’s often exciting action to be lethargic and lengthy. The Knicks didn’t have Carmelo Anthony, the Bulls were missing Derrick Rose and finally the Lakers were missing Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash against the Heat.
The Heat game was surprisingly close for the most part. The Lakers “C” squad took the challenge with stride and seemed to be inspired to try and shock the NBA champs in the national spotlight. The Lakers players used a balanced attack; they had five different players over double figures. Nick Young most noticeably showed out. He made an array of three pointers over Wade and LeBron James. Young finished the night with 20 points and 2 rebounds. With 1:26 to play, Young hit another three-pointer to make it a four point game. After a Heat stop, Wade made an under the basket reverse layup and then LeBron went to the line and added two more points to finally pull away.
The Heat’s big three showed up in L.A. having already won five straight games and they most definitely put on a show. The big three combined for 65 out of the 95 total points and made playing the Lakers in L.A. look very easy. With all the highlight plays and lack of defensive effort from both sides, it looked and felt as an exhibition game would.
The most memorable part of the Christmas games experience was a couple of Wade to LeBron Alley-oop dunks. James finished with 19 pts 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
