Wow, what a game Monday night! If you have been watching Heat basketball for the last two weeks then you’ve had a great month so far in December. The Heat have played a string of the most exciting basketball games in recent memory. This month, the Heat have gifted us the opportunity to watch complete dominance against teams like the Cavaliers, Jazz and Kings. They have also gifted excitement with nail bitters against the Pacers and their epic overtime game last night against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks arrived at the Heat’s house sporting a three game winning streak of which all three games were won by double digits. The Hawks are the best team in the league at moving the ball, as they ranked first in assists per game. They currently sit behind the Heat as the second best team in the Southeast Division.
The Miami Heat had themselves a roller coaster game against the Hawks. The Heat came out firing in all cylinders and took an early 13-0 lead and looked like they were going to be dominant the rest of the way. Then the intensity went down as they found themselves down seven with a minute and 30 seconds left in the game. Then…LeBron went bonkers!
LeBron, with the Heat down seven made back-to-back three pointers and a posterization of Paul Millsap (pictured above) to bring the game within one. After the Hawks scored, the Heat were still down by three points and LeBron passed the ball to Allen who was open in the corner and was fouled for 3 three free throws. He drained all three and we had overtime. The Heat took care of business the rest of the way and with the win improved to 21-6 for the season.
The Heat proved to be a deeper team than what was previously believed. Recently engaged Dwyane Wade was out again due to knee soreness, and Spoelstra resorted to playing their bench extended minutes, of which they all performed tremendously. Birdman totaled 12 points and 9 rebounds and Beasley 10 points with 7 rebounds.
Atlanta: A. Horford 21 Pts, 11 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk & Paul Millsap 25 points 10 rebounds
Miami: L. James 38 Pts, 8 Reb, 6 Ast, 2 Stl & Ray Allen 19 Pts, 6 rebounds
NEXT GAME: Tomorrow on Christmas Day. Heat @ Lakers. Tip-off at 5:00pm.
