Last night, the Dallas Mavericks arrived at the Heat’s house for their first meeting of the season. These Dallas vs Miami games are always entertaining given the history between these two franchises and last night was no different. Both teams were ready to play and what transpired was one of the most entertaining games of the young season. The Mavericks are still Nowitzki’s team but the added professional scorer Monta Ellis in the off season in order to make a run at the playoffs after missing out in the postseason last year.
Dallas kept it close all night, with Nowitzki leading the Mavericks in scoring with 28 points, 6 rebounds and a block. Monta Ellis added 20 points 4 assists and a steal, combining for the bulk of the offense. But for the Heat, Wade and Lebron ‘s stars shoned brighter than everyone else and anchored the team on both sides of the ball.
Lebron took care of the offense scoring 39 points in just 18 shots and went to the line 11 times, making 10 of them. This is Lebron’s highest point total of the season so far. Shortly after the game he was asked about his virtuous efficiency and the run he is on. He responded, “You give me 37 shots in a game, I’ll have 60, 70,” James said. “I had 40 tonight on 18 shots. If I get 37 shots in a game, I’m going to put up 60. Easy”.
It was the first time James scored more than 38 points when taking 18 or fewer shots. Wade anchored the team defensively; he stole the ball 8 times tying Tim Hardaway for the franchise record. He added 17 points and 8 assists.
Game Notes: The Heat improved their record to 6-3 but are still trailing the Indiana Pacers who are still perfect on the season with a record of 9-0.
