“Nobody can stop LeBron as a basketball player, nobody can stop me as a street artist, and nobody can stop Israel Hernandez’s life and his message. He lives on.” – TMNK
As most know by now the giant NBA 2K14 Lebron James billboard across from the American Airlines Arena was hit up by street artist TMNK a few days ago. Bleacher Report’s Ethan Skolnick got some words with the artist himself explaining the background of the piece of work. TMNK said he was inspired by the comments that were made by Michael Jordan last week stating that he would beat Lebron in a one-on-one. He wanted to make a statement for LBJ, but he also wanted to commemorate the life and work of Israel Hernandez aka Reefa, an 18 year old Miami Beach artist who was killed this past summer.
TMNK was in fact arrested on 13 counts of criminal mischief, because the paint he used for the LeBron billboard dripped onto 13 cars. He was released on $65,000 bond and was very sorry about the cars that he unintentionally damaged. If you guys want to know more about TMNK you can watch an interview down below that he did with @amonfocus last April.
