Even with a surging 3-0 start, the Dolphins are slumping into Week 6 on a bye week with a disheartening 3-2 season record. Could it have been a sense of false hopes that made us believe that the Dolphins could capitalize on their early success, despite a challenging schedule to open up the season? Although rookie Caleb Sturgis missed a crucial 57-yard field goal (his only miss of the season), Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman has certainly stretched out his streak of unconvincing play-calling, coupled with a suspect O-line that gave up a total of six sacks. The scoreboard (26-23) doesn’t necessarily spell out the distress some Dolphins fans are having for a team that settles for less and seems to fall prey to past unpredictable habits.
After Week 6’s bye week, The Miami Dolphins will host the Buffalo Bills (2-3) in a heated Week 7 AFC East match-up on Sunday, 10/20.
Bounce back: The Ryan Tannehill we were used to seeing (before Week 4’s performance against the Saints), made a return as he threw for over 307 yards (21-of-40 passes) and a single touchdown in Week 5’s disappointing loss to the Ravens. There is a strong correlation between Tannehill’s efforts and the involvement of Mike Wallace, whom managed to snag seven receptions for a total of 105 yards. However, the lack of consistency from Tannehill is preventing the Dolphins offense from truly moving the ball adequately down the field.
Fantasy Analysis: The Dolphins are on a bye week for Week 6, but Tannehill should remain on your radar as a solid QB2 option in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills.
Ghost town: Lamar Miller rushed for a mere 15 yards on seven carries in Sunday’s Week 5 loss to the Ravens. The Dolphins stormed out with a reconstructed gameplan in the second half, which caused Miller to completely fall out of the rotation (playing from behind doesn’t help much either). Miller’s inability to be a major factor in the passing game is hindering his progression as the Dolphins featured tailback.
Fantasy Analysis: I’m not high on Lamar Miller as much as other fantasy owners may be at this point, but he’s worth another look as a low-end RB2/FLEX option in Week 7’s matchup against the Bills. It remains to be seen whether Miller will carve a significant enough role in the Dolphins offense as the involvement of Daniel Thomas seemingly fades away.
