Tonight, while community leaders and neighborhood activists in Midtown and Wynwood are going to state their claims against the building of a Midtown Walmart, the biggest private employer of the world just opened a new location in the South Dade area near Cutler Bay and Goulds on the intersection of US1 and SW 211th Street.
The store is celebrating its grand opening today and if you’ve been by the area, then you can see all the traffic officers (due to a non-working traffic light) and all the customers piling in to see what kind of first-day deals Walmart has up their sleeves.
The situation with Walmart is like a gift and a curse. Yes, it supplies goods and groceries at a low cost, which is great for low-income families. But the downside is that other businesses tend to fail and get outmatched by Walmart’s ability to sell these goods at those incredibly low prices. So its one of those things that there really isn’t a clear right or wrong answer for.
