Collins Avenue (which partially runs as A1A) is a historic street that has existed since the early days of South Florida settlement. Collins runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean from the South Pointe tip of Miami Beach and goes all the way through the Aventura area where it converts to Ocean Blvd at NE 192nd Street.

Collins Avenue was named in honor of  John S. Collins, an early Miami developer who in 1913 completed the Collins Bridge; the first bridge  connecting Miami Beach to the mainland across Biscayne Bay.
