Miami Herald looks into “Sole Business” and Sneaker Culture in Miami

The Miami Herald ran this piece last month and damn, we’re surprised we missed it. They interview Jennifer Villamia (with the Miami chapter of Dunkxchange) and Jason Kanfer & Christopher Julien of Unknwn in Aventura. The cameras actually went to one of the more recent editions of Dunkxchange, here in Downtown Miami’s Mecca Nightclub.

In South Florida, the home of Heat superstar LeBron James, a subculture of Sneakerheads, or shoe collectors, are rising. The self-proclaimed “hype-beasts” and “fiends” have turned Miami into a Mecca for sneaker business, buying and selling rare shoes at prices upwards of $3000.00, with groups of all ages searching for the most killer kicks.Β  James has become the biggest figurehead in the sneaker game, with global sales of his shoes reaching the millions. Grails, beaters jewels, there is a lot of money to be made.
