Jerry Powers (founder of Ocean Drive) talks about his early Miami experiences, living in Coconut Grove, including him going to Miami Dade Community College (now Miami Dade College) and being a prominent concert promoter in Miami since way back in the 60’s. He also discusses LIV and all the other nightclubs and etc. Overall, its a MUST WATCH video.
Media visionary Jerry Powers recently spoke at the New Miami Forum, describing his involvement in Miami’s early music scene—from promoting concerts with Janis Joplin and Elvis to wild nights with Jim Morrison and the Bee Gees. Powers, the former Publisher and CEO of Ocean Drive magazine, has lived on and off in Miami since the late ‘60s and has always been involved with media and music in his adopted city. The luncheon at Caffee Abbracci was well-attended by Miami’s movers and shakers and was moderated by Seth Gordon. Take a wild ride with Powers and find out how Music Made Miami—and still is.
Such a dope clip to see the humble beginnings of a person that has become such a prominent figure in Miami and then on the flip side, good to see that music was important to his start-up.
