The Canes basketball program seems to be competing with the Miami Heat for the most exciting team in the city. The University of Miami Hurricanes have had just as a remarkable 2012-2013 season as the Heat, gaining a load of momentum after a blow-out victory over Duke at home in late February. This past weekend, UM took home the school’s first Conference title. Led by ACC tournament player of the year Shane Larkin (28 points, 7 assists), the Canes pulled away with an 87-77 victory over North Carolina.
The AP polls have been updated and the overall #5 Canes found out Sunday afternoon that they will be headed into the March Madness tournament as the #2 seed in the East Region. Having a bid in the March Madness tournament is great news for Canes fans, regardless of coming up short of the #1 seed in the East. The Canes have only been selected to the March Madness tournament once in the past decade.
With the momentum of the Canes basketball program and the exhilarating style of play by the Miami Heat, who have continued their streak (22) with a win over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, Miami fans will have something to be proud about as they try to take their mind off a rebuilding football (Dolphins) and baseball (Marlins) franchise.
The University of Miami Hurricanes face Pacific (22-12) in Austin, TX at 2:10 p.m. on Friday. The game will be televised on TNT.
