Lucali, is a Brooklyn based pizza spot owned by restauranteur Mark Iacono. After being closed for a few months or so since Hurricane Sandy, the restaurant opened again recently, but will close again this Sunday so that Mark can come here to Miami to scout locations to open a Miami Beach Lucali. The rumored located is set off 1930 West Avenue, right next to Barceloneta and near Purdy Ave.
Lucali has made MANY lists and has been regarded as one of the best pizzerias in not only Brooklyn, but in New York City and the United States even. The Brooklyn location can hold wait times of hours during peak seasons. Jay-Z and Beyonce are/were regulars and made tons of trips over the last year.
“I’m closing again, on Sunday,” Iacono said, glancing nervously back toward the prep area, which had been operating without his supervision for a full sixty seconds. “I’m going down to Miami to open a new restaurant.” As if life in Miami wasn’t enviable enough (current temperature: 71 degrees), the lucky bastards will soon be able to experience the best pizza in NYC. Iacono told us the restaurant, which will be a pizzeria on one side and an Italian restaurant on the other side, will open soon in a converted warehouse in South Beach… unless it doesn’t. “We’ll see; I gotta check it out,” he said, his perfectionism raging unabated. “I might be down there ten days, I might come back after one day.” – Gothamist
So now, if everything goes well, Miami will have its very own Lucali to enjoy. Just be fair-warned, the pricing will be a little in the up side, but we’re sure the experience and the taste will be more than worth it.
Stay tuned for exact opening details, to be revealed real soon.
