So which video from a local independent left an impression on us this year? Well, it was hard to sift through a year’s worth of content to make a decision – and we had to narrow it down to two videos – each being great for different reasons. So this category comes down to a tie.
1) First up, MMC Da Click came through with their song “Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone)”. Directed by @PhotoTea. The song itself is just dope, so let’s get that out of the way. But what they did with the video was just unexpected. You can interpret the video how you’d like, but it basically emphasizes on the terror of being alone and/or helpless. It doesn’t seem like a huge budget was at place here, but its what they did with it that counted. The casting for the couple featured in the video was great, and the video in general just brought you into the story somehow if you really paid attention. We just loved the simplicity of the visuals combined with the greatness of the song to make a great music video. Click Here To Watch.
2) And then the second video. Miami Beat Wave featuring ArtOfficial, Locos Por Juana, Omniscient, and Davincci with “Succeed”. Directed by Garcia. Again, this video was all local and all independent. There was really one location used from what we see, but the quality of the visuals and the superb lighting just made this one a crisp and clean video that complimented the song. “Succeed” is a dope posse cut with an underground feel, and the fast paced gritty video works all too well for the beat wave on this one.
