UPDATE (12:00PM): Its an apparent “postponing” not “cancelation” of the event. But the reasons are still kinda ehh. Read details here.
UPDATE: (11:00AM): The UR1 Festival headlined by Kanye West is pretty much canceled according to rampant rumors and now via pretty much official confirmations.
We gotta face it, Miami’s ticket-buying crowd is a weird one, and we’ve been hearing rumors and tips for the last few months that UR1’s folks were having trouble getting people to actually buy tickets for the event. Despite an amazing lineup and a cool concept on one of the busiest weekends of the year in South Florida, the show just couldn’t go on. These type of concerts and festivals, especially the non-EDM ones, are a hard sell for Miami. A lot of local and non-local promoters, sponsors and organizers come to Miami with their events using an NYC or LA type of approach – which simply doesn’t work because Miami is a whole different animal.
UR1’s organizers will apparently release an official statement later today, but you can expect that refunds will be given at point of purchase.
So yeah, so much for seeing a Kanye Show during Art Basel.
More details soon…
