Yesterday, the iconic Bacardi Building, former headquarters of Bacardi USA, was bought by YoungArts, a program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. It was bought at below market value and will become YoungArts’ first national headquarters. Frank Gehry, an artitect known golbally for his unique designs and concepts, will the one to give it a fresh look. He will preserve the building’s ‘jewel box’ annex and create a “multidisciplinary arts campus and park.” He is also responsible for the design of the New World Center in Miami Beach.
YoungArts indentifies emerging artists and assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development, and to raise the appreciation for, and support of, the arts in American Society, according to their mission statement.
