131 will be showing a selected compilation of pieces created during the past three years. A series of documental photography depicting cement inscriptions and palm tree carvings gathered in and around the city of Miami. The inspiration for this projects came from the need to do work outside a studio setting while exploring the city and documenting specific details of it.
The sculptures included in this upcoming show represent a new step for the artist. He applies collage techniques to metal welding procedures obtaining original results.
‘Epoxy Moon’ is a video piece also created by 131 that transforms a year’s worth of footage into a half hour ‘video collage’ with audio layering compositions. Marine exploration footage and clips of studio work provide information and influences that shaped the creative process, at the same time serving as a memory vault of diverse imagery.
“Amoeba Battle” and “Periodic Table” (pictured above) are drawings that use the visual language of symbols used by the artist in different ways for the past few years. These creations are influenced by science and use as reference the microscopic world, where particles, microbes and cells are constantly interacting with each other, ultimately offering a metaphorical representation for human social and psychological interaction.
