One of the oldest buildings in the Western Hemisphere is in North Miami Beach, but there’s a catch

The St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church or now known as the Ancient Spanish Monastery is a building from Spain that was built between the years 1133-1141. The building was disassembled in the 20th Century and sent to the United States to be rebuilt to its exact original form in North Miami Beach back in 1964 where it still stands at 16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida 33160, USA. Due to a mistake in the numbered boxes the pieces were shipped on, there were complications in rebuilding the monastery. So it took 19 months and almost $1.5 million dollars to put the Monastery back together.

The building is a South Florida hotspot for Weddings, photoshoots and other private ceremonies.

And even though it wasn’t originally built in this side of the world, its still technically one of the oldest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. Visit it today.
