(Miami, FL) – You know a good time has appeared when even the bad times are funny. “Tell him,” Dolphins linebacker Kevin Burnett was saying. Karlos Dansby smiled at the next locker. “I went for a tackle and hit Kevin by accident. He had some words for me.”
“Some choice words!” Burnett said.
“Can’t repeat ’em here,” Dansby said.
Then came a riot of laughter, up and down the row of lockers. Dansby. Burnett. Will Allen was laughing. Yeremiah Bell. And it wasn’t that the story was so funny. It was something simpler, more fundamental.
This is what it’s like to be in a winning locker room. It all came back Sunday after a 31-3 stunner against Kansas City that nothing prepared you to expect. See Kendall Langford singing over there? Brandon Marshall smiling?
It had been seven straight losses before that. Ten, if you go to last season. And while no one over-celebrated the win – “We’ll make sure of that,” Jason Taylor said – a smile was due and healthy.
