Free running is “a form of urban acrobatics in which participants, known as free runners, use the city and rural landscape to perform movements through its structures. It incorporates efficient movements from parkour, adds aesthetic vaults and other acrobatics, such as tricking and street stunts, creating an athletic and aesthetically pleasing way of moving. It is commonly practiced at gymnasiums and in urban areas (such as cities or towns) that are cluttered with obstacles.” (wiki)
Miami Freerunning is one of Miami’s premiere free running teams, founded in 2009. They’re known around the world and compete all over as well. They train firefighters, policemen and other professionals on an ongoing basis. They’re also fresh off a performance on the Latin Billboard Awards that took place in Miami a couple weeks ago.
I got a chance to check them out during their “open gym” day at their gym in Doral (address below). Basically, its a day they have occasionally where they allow active members of the community of all ages to use their gym to practice free running techniques in a safe and controlled environment. I personally saw kids and even a female gymnast doing some pretty incredible things at the gym.
All in all, they seem to be doing some pretty incredible stuff as a collective. You can check some more of the Miami Free Runners on their facebook page and in this amazing video reel which you can also check out below…
