Wow, you can’t make this kind of stuff up. Former baseball star and supposed snitch, Jose Canseco, allegedly conned a local promoter by sending his twin brother to appear at a boxing match that he was supposed to fight in at the Seminole Hard Rock this past Saturday. And I say “allegedly” because other than a couple vague twitter messages (below), we don’t have Jose’s side of the story.
However, things look really fishy as you can already tell by the headline. Jose’s brother Ozzie showed up to the fight and when he took off his shirt, the promoters noticed that Jose’s tattoos were missing – thus, letting the cat out of the bag.
Apparently, the company that booked him (Celebrity Boxing), gave Jose a $5,000 deposit when they agreed on the fight and then another $5,000 hours before the fight, which was called off after everybody realized it wasn’t Jose. 400 fans that came to see the fight were told to go home and Ozzie Canseco was escorted off the premises by police.
Jose took to Twitter to point out that:
“Damon Feldman, the Celebrity Boxing leader, did not comply with his part of the agreement. Be careful with Damon Feldman, who will not pay you if you fight for him.”
So there you have it. A whole lot of shenanigans. I don’t know who’s crazier. Jose Canseco. The Celebrity Boxing guy. Or Jose’s twin brother for actually going through with this stunt.
This story most definitely made my morning.
