Here’s some photos I took for the Red Bull Music Academy event at the Raleigh Hotel earlier today with Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder.
The two took questions and let everybody know their take on hip-hop and the current state of it. They definitely brought some great points about respecting all kinds of hip-hop.
Kweli also talked about the power of social media, like him linking up with MC Hammer via Twitter and recording some Blackstar related music with him last summer.
Kweli also revealed that he’s really pushing Mos to finally do a new Blackstar album. And that their first album, it was really Kweli running around booking the sessions and the buying the beats and etc. Essentially, that Mos needs a little push here and there, but when they make music, its magic.
And 9th Wonder…overall, he was just cool and confident with just offering his take on music and production. He’s stressed it in the past and he stressed it here that it’s not what machine (or program) you use to make beats, its all in the mind and soul of the man/woman making it.
Overall, a great event to kick off the Red Bull Music Academy movement.
