Alexander McQueen posthumously teams up with Design District’s The Rug Company.
December is almost here and for savvy art enthusiasts in Miami that means one thing, Art Basel. The schedule of events has already been revealed and VIP passes have been sold; while the event centers around the latest in the art community, there are still a few fashion-oriented events to look out for. This year you can pay homage to the late designer, Alexander McQueen, with the debut of one of his last projects. McQueen’s rug collection will be on display on Thursday, December 2nd in the Design District as one of the events during Art Basel.
Known for his exuberant designs and unconventional fashion shows, one show involving amputee models, McQueen is regarded as one of the most talented designers of our time. Before taking his life in February, McQueen had been working on a collection of rugs for The Rug Company. The rug collection, which took three years to create, embodies McQueen’s legendary aesthetic. Among the designs are skulls, military inspired brocade, abstract feathers resembling finger prints and some wicked hummingbird prints, reminiscent of his last fashion collection. The Rug Company has partnered with designing great in the past such as: Vivenne Westwood, Tom Dixon and Paul Smith. This will be the first step in what The Rug Company plans to make a global tour.
