Jim Jonsin speaks about “Lollipop” and about not getting paid by Cash Money

Jim Jonsin linked with Vibe for a quick interview regarding Lil Wayne’s 2008 hit single “Lollipop”…

ON “LOLLIPOP” VS. “A MILLI”:
“Compared to [Lil Wayne] and Cash Money Records’ whole career, ‘Lollipop’ stands above anything they’ve ever had. Honestly, ‘A Milli’ doesn’t even compare. No disrespect to the song, but ‘Lollipop,’ was phenomenal,” Jonsin says. “Lil Wayne was on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine after that record. ‘Lollipop’ is a much better song [and] clearly blew him up.”

ON STILL TRYING TO GET PAID FOR “LOLLIPOP”:
‘We’re still trying to get paid. Clearly, I don’t understand what the issue is. They sold the record, they’ve collected the checks, they’ve even gotten huge advances, they’re buying Bugattis, and spending all kinds of money. But the producers and people that created the songs are not getting paid. And so we’re going through some things now in hopes that it gets fixed. That thing was like the most downloaded song in history, so pay the people who made it. It’s not your record, it’s our record.”

No offense to Jim, but Lil Wayne being on a million mixtapes blew him up, not Lollipop. And rappers weren’t doing remixes to Lollipop, but they were to A Millie. That was one of the biggest records that year. Jim’s wylin’.

  • MalcolmRex

    @xionone

Yeah, but Lollipop was a number one single, not just a number one hip-hop single. It was number one on the entire billboard chart, for 5 weeks! It was the song that catapulted him from aggressive mixtape rapper with a few good albums to a worldwide pop sensation. The fact that the people who worked on the song have yet to be compensated is sickening. Thats the same reason Manny Fresh left.

  • Plex

I mean shit… you do work, you should get paid, regardless of how big the song is… I dont know the details of this shit or whos right or wrong, but whatever, just sayin.

  • Aruba

ok wait a minute …..Lollipop did not make Wayne. Wayne was Wayne before Lollipop. and even if there was no lollipop …..wayne wouldve made a track with somebody else …about something else …that wouldve still make him a pop sensation

the man is talented he wouldve made it to this point one way or another

BUT that doesnt change the fact that Jim MUST get paid for his talents and effort as well

  • FLORIDABOY727

FUCK THAT, THAT I WHY, JUVE, B.G. UNLV & MANNIE FRESH LEFT CASH MONEY.
THERE ARE ONYL 2 PEOPLE THAT GET “PAID” ON THAT LABEL AND IT’S BIRDSHIT & HIS GIRLFRIEND LIL WANYE.
ANY ARTISITS THAT SIGNS WITH THEM SHOULD JUST PREPARE TO WITHER NOT BE PAID OR HAVE YOUR PROJECT SHELVED UNLESS YOUR GETTING HOT FOR NO REASON “DRAKE OR NICKI”

NO OFFENSE TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO LEFT FEEDBACK BUT, GIVE A FUCK BOUT THE MIXTAPES OR WHO IS DOING REMIXES TO WHAT SONG, JIM WORRIED ABOUT THE #1 BILL BOARD SINGLE HE PRODUCED FOR WAYNE’S GAY ASS. JONSIN SHOULD GET PAID.

  • pete

this is why i would never work with cash-money…there is always people sayin they didn’t get paid. come-on Bird. just pay people what you owe

  • jesus

One day Birdshit will get paid by God…
    1 bullet , 1 life .. its all about

  • Birdshit

Prediction next person to get ripped off by cash money,
Drew Money, guy who produced the new nikki minaj single, lol, it’s so true…lol…watch

  • http://materialkillers.com/ xionone

@MalcolmRex … I gotta disagree. Lollipop was #1 off the fact that he was already hugely popular. So its not like the song made him a pop success. Carter II previously was already a platinum selling album.

But all that said, they need to pay what they owe.

  • JC

Correction: the only ones that get paid are Ronald Slim and Baby Williams. Lil Wayne is the prostiute they put on the track.

  • Steeze

Look at the numbers! Wayne was popular, but not to the masses. That is what makes you famous…. That would be like Dr. Dre not getting paid for “In the Club” by 50. 5O made mixtapes blow up, not Wayne and if 50 never made “In the Club” he wouldn’t be a star…. If Wayne wouldn’t have made Lollipop, he would be right back where he was with the Carter, no where….. People listen, this industry is about money and the rap charts don’t matter! The Billboard 100 matters when you are going against U2, Mariah, Mettalica, Keys R.E.M. shit like that… That is what makes you a star…..

  • Aruba

you just dont understand ….the beat doesnt make the rapper ….the rapper makes the beat

wayne was bound to blow up with or without lollipop
why? because he has the talent and work ethic

if there was no lollipop …there would b something else
at that point we would just b talking about another producer who didnt get paid over a different named track
