Wade Faces Off In First-Ever NBA Cares Charity Challenge

NBA All-Stars Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash Compete for Fan Support via Facebook and $10,000 for Their Favorite Charity

MIAMI, 5/4 – The Miami HEAT, National Basketball Association (NBA), and State Farm have announced the launch of the first-ever NBA Cares Charity Challenge presented by State Farm®, in which HEAT guard Dwyane Wade and other NBA stars will compete via the league’s Facebook fan page to help raise money for the charity of their choice.

Beginning today and continuing through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, fans can view videos featuring NBA All-Stars Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash, each working with an affiliated charitable organization. Throughout the weeklong program, fans will be able to vote for one of the four players’ videos on the NBA’s Facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/nba). The player that collects the most fan support will win $10,000 for their selected charity, while the other three charities will receive a $5,000 donation.

Wade will be raising money for Project Medishare, a non-profit organization that provides free medical assistance in Haiti. Wade, along with HEAT Vice President, Player Programs Alonzo Mourning, formed the “Athletes Relief Fund for Haiti”, which raised $1 million from a group of professional athletes to support the Haiti earthquake relief. Much of funds were donated to Project Medishare to assist in its relief efforts.

A special NBA Cares Charity Challenge Presented By State Farm video featuring Wade and Project Medishare can be viewed by clicking here or by visiting NBA.com. Fans can vote for Wade and Project Medishare by visiting www.facebook.com/nba.
