I’m not a sneaker expert by any means, but I think I know what looks good. Lots of sneaker releases went down in 2009 and seeing what Complex was doing with different sneakerheads, I thought I’d put together a shortlist of my Top 5. I tend to sway towards simple/neutral colored sneakers and that is definitely proven through my list. Read below for my top picks of 2009.
5) LIVESTRONG x Futura x Nike Sportswear Dunk Hi “FLOMâ€
A play off the original release of the FLOMs, here’s this very special release part of the Livestrong series of releases. I didn’t get a chance to get these, but they really are one of the better releases of 2009. I mean, what baller (or baller-in-the-making) wouldn’t want some exclusively limited sneakers with currency imprints on its design…yeah.
4) 3-Way Tie… the grayscale picks
Allright, this was tough but I had to classify all of these under one place. And being that they ‘re all under the grayscale side of things, its fitting. You have the Nike Dunk Hi TZ Gray at the top, the Air Jordan I Retro “Black/Gray†on the bottom-left and the Nike Air Toki TZ “Gray†on the bottom-right. All are gray. And all are dope.
3) Nike Air Force 1 Low Supreme SP ’09 Huarache
What can I say. They’re damn near white-on-white Air Force 1’s but…they got that icey clear sole. If they weren’t so plain, these would honestly be my number one pick because I literally bought four pairs at $150 a pop and have rocked them almost exclusively throughout the year.
2) Air Jordan III “True Bluesâ€
These did not release in the U.S. so a lot of people who really wanted them where out of luck, unless, they took it to the internet and got them from overseas or from Canada. I had to pull a few strings and pay a small premium above retail, but I got these in my hands and they look fresh as they did in all the photos (lol).
1) Air Jordan XI “Space Jamsâ€
Easily one of the most anticipated re-releases of the decade. It seems like these will in fact be more widely accessible to the masses, but that doesn’t discount the dopeness of the Space Jams, made legendary by MJ himself – along with the movie of the same name.
