October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this past weekend, our favorite 305 songstress Shonie (Slip-N-Slide artist), was in Downtown Miami with her Slick Salt family to “Race For The Cure”. An annual Susan G. Coleman benefit. Soon as I got word of this, I knew I had to post a little something as well as a couple photos. Also mind you, the photos above were taken AFTER they completed the race. But either way, I just had to show Shonie’s care for such an important cause. When asked about her experience at the race, here’s what she said:
To be honest, when I first started the race, I was gonna cheat! Being up that early and running a full 3 miles? That’s harsh! But something really hit me when I started running. I saw a lot of other people running with signs posted on their backs that said “in memory of…” and it had names of family members that they either lost or that are battling breast cancer. What really got me was some signs that read, “in memory of my mom.” I’m real sentimental when it comes to my mom and I can’t imagine how that must feel to lose your mom, so that made me stick it out and run the whole thing. I saw how much it meant to everyone else, and that was the real motivation for me. All in all, it was a very touching experience. Everyone should do it at least once.
Mad shouts out to Shonie and Slick Salt for participating. And with that, here’s a new Shonie remix of Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independant”
