The stiletto is on the other foot for Christina Milian, who’s suing Poli Paul, the writer/producer of her 2004 breakout hit “Dip It Low.†According to TMZ.com, Milian claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday in L.A. County Superior Court that Paul “very definitively†assured her that “there were no samples whatsoever in … ‘Dip It Low.’ â€
But a trio of little-known artists —Thomas Turino, Larry Crook and Dan Dickey — later sued Milian over the song, claiming that it contained a sample from a track they released in 1983 called “La Sirena.†The lawsuit claims that Paul heard the album while in a Pasadena, California, record store, liked the tune and sampled 12 seconds of it for “Dip It Low.†Milian claims to have spent more than $300,000 defending herself in the “Sirena†trio’s case, which she has since settled, and she’s now going after Paul and his production partner for the $300k, plus damages.
A spokesperson for Milian could not be reached for comment at press time. While Paul could also not be reached for comment, his official MySpace page features the message, “Not Guilty!!! LoL.â€
