Selling over a million copies in his first week and smashing the notion that cd sales are out the window. The Carter III has proved otherwise. Now here’s a focus on the production aspect of the CD with the release of all the instrumentals from the disc featuring beats from Cool-N-Dre, Swizz Beats, Streetrunner, Jim Jonsin and much more.

I was reading a post over at NiceKicks when I ran into this throwback clip of Vince Carter dunking over this tall ass French dude (Wiess) in the 2000 Olympics when they were in Australia. Vince really owned that French cat to the 10th degree. And lucky for us, we have about 15 camera angles that caught that ownage happening.

Cassie featuring Lil Wayne – Official Girl (New Single)
Written By DRO | Posted In Music
Wednesday July 30th 2008, 10:21 pm

Today seems to be Bad Boy Records day over here on The305. First Janelle and now we got a track from the apparent “first lady” of Bad Boy. Cassie is most definitely pleasant to look at it and nobody with good taste in women can deny that. Her vocals however have always been under strong criticsm. And her live performance game is rock bottom to say it nicely. But she did allright with “Me And You”…shit, if anything she sold a lot of ring tones. So now, it what seems to be her “official” single, here’s Cassie with Lil Weezy on “Official Girl”. I can’t say I’m impressed by Cassie or even Wayne on this track (and Wayne usually kills any guest features he’s on), but I’m sure somebody on Earff has to like this shit…

Photos of the day. Rayon Richards is an editorial photographer and has worked with countless magazines such as The Source, XXL, Complex, Maxim and Latina to name a few. His work is usually very sharp and vivid. His black and white portraits are very incredible and that’s why I decided to put a couple of them together for this post. The ones above feature Claudio Sanchez, Woody Quinn, Keri Hilson, and B.B. King. You can see more of Rayon’s work over at his website: www.rayonrichards.com

Hey Gil Green! This is what we know you for!!! Lil Wayne’s new video!
Written By DRO | Posted In Videos
Wednesday July 30th 2008, 10:55 am

And here’s the follow-up to the previous installment of Lil Wayne & Gil Green’s recent stream of video collaberations. Its the continuation of the very simple, yet creative, “A MIlli” video (which you can see by clicking here). This is the new single off The Carter III, entitled “Get Money” and here’s the video to accompany it.

Now, recently we all got to see the video for “Out Here Grindin’” and to say the least, the video was definitely not up to par or even close to what we usually see from Gil Green and camp. But Gil didn’t fall short and came back to something we’re familiar with on “Get Money:” Word!

Janelle Monae – Many Moons

Wednesday July 30th 2008, 7:06 am

Janelle Monae is that new “it” girl. She’s on some next shit and she’s on Bad Boy Records? Well, apparently. She has a little bit of that Gnarls Barkley sound sprinkled over this new track “Many Moons”, but don’t get it twisted, she’s her own identity and is unique beyond belief. Her EP Metropolis Suite, will be out on August 12th and her full length album should be out in January. Check the song by pressing “play” below”

The Fox And The Boss Are No Longer And Item
Written By DRO | Posted In Rumors
Tuesday July 29th 2008, 5:53 am

According to Allhiphop, Foxy Brown and Rick Ross are no longer an item. And while it seemed to never have been confirmed to begin with, Ross apparently made the announcement on Phoenix radio station Power 98.3 FM. Oh yeah, he also mentioned that there’s been this little tiny small microscopic rumor that’s been flying around about him being a C.O. or something. He says its not true. And you know, when the boss says something, we know its the truth. Fuckwhatchahurd! And quick plug, make sure to check out Rick Ross’ 2nd Annual Be Out Day at Carol City Senior High next week on August 6th from 12noon- 6pm.

Back when Crook and Crome had Channel 7 and 10 all up in they grill. Pictured below are newsclips and live shots of reporters covering the ways of Crook and Crome circa 1999. These two were legends in my eyes back when I was growing up and first starting to get into hip-hop. If anyone has a high quality picture of that HUGE piece on the side of this multi-story building that they (or one of them) did – I think off the Miami Palmetto Expressway, I will be forever in debt to you. Recently, I read this small article on Katy Perry. Yes, The305 has an alternative side. We listen to and support Lil Wayne all day fah sho’ but sometimes we gotta show love to the Y-100 type of crowd. I made a post about here before, but thought I’d reiterate it in case any of ya’ll missed it. Katy is the truth. She’s the hottest blancita I’ve seen in a minute. She really does it for me, but regardless here’s the clip from Paper Magazine’s July Issue…

Aesop Rock’s new Stan Smith Adidas sneakers via Upper Playground

Tuesday July 29th 2008, 12:00 am

The New York native and underground emcee Aesop Rock, explains the concept behind his new Stan Smith sneaker which comes out in a few days for sale exclusively online via UpperPlayground.Com:

“The faded green and gold colors have a strange eerie-meets-regal vibe that I liked when designing the art for last year’s None Shall Pass album. I wanted to continue that color scheme, and keep it pretty simple. I didn’t want anything too intrusive. Basically I just wanted something that I’d rock, and my mother might even wear them.”

Only 500 pairs are available and they sell at $150 a pop and are available this Thursday July 31st at 8PM PST.

6 More Days Till Rock The Bells!!! And it almost seems like tradition to make sure that when you mention “Rock The Bells”, that you mention Mos Def’s name right after it. So this right here is a taste of 1999 with the ode to that Ms. Fat Booty in all of our lives with the song of the same name. One of my favorite joints for real!

Lil Wayne Sued over “Playing With Fire” beat, produced by StreetRunner

Lil Wayne Sued By Rolling Stones’ Published For “Playing With Fire”
7/25/08, 8:58 am EST by Daniel Kreps for RollingStone.Com

il Wayne has been sued by the music publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones’ “Play With Fire,” as the company says Wayne’s “Playing With Fire,” off Tha Carter III, infringes on the song’s copyright and poses unfair competition. Abkco alleges that the Wayne’s song is an altered version of the Stones’ 1965 hit, saying the original song and music had been used in a recognizable way with permission. The lawsuit cites lyrical comparisons like the Stones’ original chorus “But don’t play with me, ’cause you’re playing with fire,” and Wayne’s line “But you can’t blame me if I set this stage on fire.” In the lawsuit, Abkco says that the public might assume the Rolling Stones approve of Wayne’s uses “explicit, sexist and offensive language.” Abkco is seeking unspecified damages, but if this case goes down anything like when the Verve got sued over that orchestral sample of “The Last Time” used in “Bittersweet Symphony,” Wayne might be giving back a bunch of his TC3 royalties money.

Exclusive – Webbz vs P.M.
Written By STRUCK | Posted In Artist Spotlight, Music, News
Monday July 28th 2008, 12:39 pm

In classic hip-hop tradition, Miramar artist Webbz threw the first punch at Liberty City native P.M. in battle form. The diss track called “Tylenol PM” has started to circulate through the net and onto a few larger sites in the hip-hop world. I ran into P.M. the other night just as he walked out of the studio with his response that is seemingly titled “The Funeral”. I think its a dope response. I mean, who doesn’t like a battle? As long as they can keep it on record, I’m all for it. Click Below for their songs towards each other…

Pitbull Photograph At Miami’s Domino Park
Written By DRO | Posted In 305 Magazine, Dro's Photography
Monday July 28th 2008, 9:16 am

I took this photo while on a photoshoot for the first issue of 305 Magazine. We did the photoshoot at the old Domino Park on 8th Street. It was a real quick photoshoot because we were at that park during rush hour when all the viejitos [old people] were getting their lunchtime battles going on with the domino games. So we wanted to get-in and get-out. Domino Park is considered Miami-Dade County park, so we actually needed permits to shoot there, but you know, we talked it up with the park attendant and he agreed to let us shoot for a few minutes as long as we bought the entire park a round of cafesito [Cuban Espresso shots]. Well, $10-$20 bucks worth of cafesito later and we had ourselves a photoshoot. And this wasn’t the first time I was shooting Pitbull. I had shot him back in early 2003 before he had his first album out. If I’m not mistaken, I could have been one of his first official photoshoots. I found those the other day. Maybe I’ll put ‘em up. Stay tuned.

Style Check: FLUD Turntable Watches
Written By DRO | Posted In Fashion
Monday July 28th 2008, 7:37 am

I got put on to these watches a couple months back by Marc over at KeepItClassic.Com (a fine online retailer if you don’t say so myself) and from the moment I saw them, I knew I had to have one. While the idea may not be one-of-a-kind since I think I have seen this concept before, Flud just hit the nail on the head with this design. Its unique and its sleek. The silver can compliment whatever you’re wearing and not be to flashy. However, if “flashy” is your middle name, they just recently released the Gold plated version of this watch and its available by clicking here.

Here’s Flud’s description on the watch, via their website:

“The TableTurns watch tips its fitted cap to the art of the DJ by slapping the object of your affection right on your wrist. The TableTurns is more than just a simple effigy, it redefines “keeping it real,” by being true to form, down to the most minute details, available with both a leather and a steel band, this watch is bound to scratch the surface of more than just a few conversations.”

Luther Campbell Married
Written By DRO | Posted In News
Sunday July 27th 2008, 3:12 pm

Luther Campbell, better known to most of us as Luke, was married this past week to his girlfriend Kristin Thompson. The wedding went down in Dallas and featured the incredible Betty Wright to sing during their nuptials. Although Luke has stated that this is his first marriage, their have been other well-publicized Luther Campbell relationships that kind of dwindled down, but this seems to finally be the real deal. Luke is 47 and we think that’s a perfect age for him to retire his playa card. Much success to Lukewith his new wife and oh yeah…

Luke’s new reality show “Parental Advisory” premieres on August 4th on the blaxpoitation reality driven network VH1.

OLD SCHOOL SUNDAYS: The issue in The Source where Nas got his 5 Mics for Illmatic

Sunday July 27th 2008, 3:05 pm

As you know Rock The Bells Miami is less than 7 days away, and in our daily tradition of featuring an RTB artist for every day leading up to the event, we decided to treat ya’ll with a throwback scan of the actual page in the April 1994 issue of The Source where they gave Nas his 5 Mics for his classic album, Illmatic. These were definitely the days when hip-hop and just music in general seemed to have a lot more meaning. But either way, you can click on the image if you’d like to see a bigger version that’s readable. Oh and props to Vincent Lopez at Thimk for the scan

OLD SCHOOL SUNDAYS: Sister Nancy – One, Two (MP3 ALBUM DOWNLOAD)
Written By DRO | Posted In Music, Old School Sundays
Sunday July 27th 2008, 12:42 pm

Born Nancy Russell, in Kingston, Jamaica in 1962, she is the 13th of 15th siblings, and sister of Robert Russell, aka Brigadier Jerry. Known as the groundbreaking first female DJ, Sister Nancy has been on the scene for 30 years plus. Her anthem “Bam Bam” has been heard around the world, and she’s been an innovator and leader for female DJ’s and toasters throughout Reggae’s history. At 15, she began DJing with the Chalice, Black Star, and Stereophonics Sound Systems. Her first records were put out on Winston Riley’s Techniques record label in 1979, where she offered up the single “Papa Dean”, but it was the aforementioned “Bam Bam” off of her record One Two (and the single reviewed here today) that she would be known for. Nancy was the first female DJ in a male dominated DJ world, and she was good. Her performance at the Reggae Sunsplash in 1982 would introduce her to the world. From there, Nancy could not look back. Her straight forward toasting and strong style (despite the boos and oppression from many males) would help propel her further along her musical career. Sister Nancy’s female presence would open the door for other female DJ’s to follow suit and join the Reggae game. Without her there would be no Sister Carol, Patra, etc. Don’t get me wrong, singers like Norma Fraser were killing them with Sweet Soul covers in the 70’s, but Nancy straight changed the game. She is the Queen of the DJs, with ‘Nuff Respect from all the big sound bwoys. She resides in New Jersey today.
