He got skills. But he really really, really sounds like Eminem. Well, he’s signed to Steve Rifkin so I guess he must be doing something right. Looking forward to more stuff from him. Below is a video of him rhyming over Clipse’s “Mr. Me Too” instrumental.

Most of us grew up knowing it as the old Burdine’s building in Downtown Miami. Well obviously now Macy’s, and the Macy’s Of Florida Corporate Office at that, is considering vacating the historical building that we’ve all grown to love. Beef with the area and an apparent lack of commitment from the local government to live up to promises of pending restorations have angered Big Macy’s and they may end up packing and either moving down the street to Brickell or maybe even find a nice cozy and overlooked section of Downtown Miami to fill. Time will tell. This isn’t the first time Macy’s concerns were let out into the public. This discontent has been years in the making. Read below the full article from MiamiHerald.Com

DJ Irie fails to disappoint with his yearly Irie Weekend. It kicked off with a party at Cameo hosted by newlywed Timbaland and then followed by yesterday’s Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Miami Beach Golf Course off Alton Road. Sponsored by Simply Fit (www.drinksimplyfit.com), the event drew in various celebrities and tons of support for the receiving charity – Big Brothers & Big Sisters Of America. Many props to DJ Irie for holding it down and doing something positive. Photos By Dro for 305 Magazine. Photo above shows Alonzo Mourning (left) and DJ Irie (right)
Its been about 10 days since ya’ boy posted. My apologies but I was kind of testing the waters as for as this whole blog thing. But regardless, here’s the start to another stint of daily rants. Starting off with a clip from DJ Craze’s 1999 performance at DMC. 305!

Originally from New York, but currently resides in Miami, Rahsaan releases “Sneaker Store Terrorist”. An apparent ode to being a sneakerhead and you know what, Rahsaan gets it. The swagger that is. He’s fresh and ain’t afraid to make sure that you know that. Not much to say except, listennnn…..

It would be great to say the hip-hop extravaganza known as the Paid Dues Tour went off without a hitch this past Saturday night. The vibes were nice, all of the MC’s who performed were superb, and this was easily one of the best hip-hop shows to take place this year.
Upon first walking into the venue though, fans were hit with unfortunate news. Due to death in his family, the headliner of the event Rakim was unable to make it. Typically, that would be a major blow to any concert but the folks at Contagious Musiq–the local promoters in charge of this leg of the tour, handled it properly. They refunded $5 off of everyone’s prepaid ticket and lowered the price at the door by the same amount. A lot of folks wouldn’t have done that so here’s an early shout out to the folks at Contagious for merging business sense with common sense.
Beyond that early glitch, much of the show was real impressive. The line-up was stacked with indie hip-hop heavyweights such as Blackalicious, Little Brother, Supernatural, Buckshot, Sollilaquists of Sound and Kidz in the Hall, all of which delivered plenty of fresh rhymes and then some. Couple that with solid local acts, Major League, Fresh Air Fund, and Wrekonize Ft. MAYDAY! and this was as serious of hip-hop show as fans are going to get until Rock the Bells happens in August….”

“Funk 45 label boss Jazzman Gerald and obsessive collector Malcolm Catto proudly present 21 rare and unreleased slices of heavy funk from the Alligator State! In the past they’ve fried in the Texas desert to complete Texas Funk, dodged monster tornadoes while working on Midwest Funk and have now spent the past 3 years travelling the length and breadth of Florida – trekking through the everglades to snatch rare 45s from the jaws of 20ft gators – before escaping back to the UK with an amazing selection of music that highlights Florida as one of the funkiest states in the USA! From driving percussive instrumentals by obscure small-town groups, to heartfelt slabs of soul; from tropical Latin grooves to funk 45s so raw that they were blessed by James Brown himself!”

Here’s one of the tracks from Lil’ Wayne’s The Carter III, which is out this Tuesday June 10th. Produced by Miami’s own Cool-N-Dre, “Phone Home” is probably one of the tracks most people will overlook because its a little left field.
To me personally, this track stood out because I got a chance to hear the original version of the track back in January of 2007 at Circle House Studios in North Miami. As hard as it is to believe, this version is a bit more commercial and mainstream sounding than the previous version. The original version sounded a lot more “Andre 3K” sounding with more of that “we are not the same, I am a Marshian” talk.
One thing that I can say for sure is that Cool N’ Dre’s production has grown over the last couple years and is good to see them be able to showcase a track that is more “instrumental” like and a little more different from the norm.

It took me five minutes, but I made it out of their website alive. Here’s another edition of weird things that you can currently find posted on Miami’s Craigslist site.
Free Ceramic Sink – photo is classic
Star Trek Commerative Plates – Noooooo!
Three Heads “Art” - To each his own
Random Hatred For Cubans – Read from June 6th and before
Today’s “Yeah Right Award” – Si, bro

So last February, hip-hop forums chatted up about a “grape-flavored” Anti-Energy drink called Drank. I thought it was a joke then but apparently its the real deal. I saw Perez Hilton make a post about it so I thought I should share with my fellow 305′ers. Anyways, I don’t know what to make of this, but I’m pretty sure its something that originated from Houston. Drank’s company motto is “Slow Your Roll With Drank”.
So pretty much its Drank A.K.A. Lean In A Can B.K.A. Sizzurup In A Small Aluminum Container
Description of Drank: “…We Have Combined Rose Hips, Melatonin And Valerian Root With A Great Tasting Beverage To Create The Industry’s First “Relaxed Lifestyle Beverage” These Ingredients Have The Ability To Relax Your Body, Mind, And Soul, So When Life Comes At You Fast, Just Remember To “Slow Your Roll” With DRANK…”
And you can buy it here for 5 dollars a can and in various bundles also…
UPDATE 6/09: We previously reported that it may be a joke, but apparently its the real deal. Our bads.
DJ Uncle Al was a true pioneer of Miami’s culture. He used to have the police dept sponsor his “Peace In Tthe Hood” events. Once a year the world stopped to chill, eat food and just listen to locals performing – and the police department paid for all of it!!! I found “Keep Dancin’” and had to share.
R.I.P. Uncle Al

Since Kimbo came out to Dunk Ryders’ [and Trick Daddy's] “Fuck Tha Otha Side” as his intro from last Saturday’s fight, we’ve gotten tons of request and Google searches for the song, so we gotta fill them requests I guess. Listen to the song below and/or download it. “There’s a special way I fold my flag”

Kimbo Slice made his mark at last night’s fight against James Thompson. He got the win, but got it with a whole lot of controversy attached to it from many angles. Some call him a rookie that should not have been a headliner, especially for being the first MMA event to appear on a national broadcast network (CBS). And others praise the ground he walks on. Us here at The305 just love the fact that he’s representing Perrine and felt proud when he came in with Trick Daddy and The Dunk Ryders’ “Fuck Tha Other Side” as his intro song.
