Rumor Alert! - Apparently there have been rumors that Dwayne Wade has been “hitting it off” with Star Jones. You know, Star is that chick that used to be on The View. I mean, sorry for being inconsiderate here, but this is Dwayne Wayne we’re talking about. He can pretty much have any woman on earff, and Star Jones (who is 20-years his senior) is the name that is stirred up in Rumorville? Just a couple months ago he was being linked to Gabrielle Union. Now Gabrielle – that, I can see. Either way, he’s still technically married so I don’t know if these rumors have any merit, but inquiring minds want to know. Oh well, here you go. Just reporting what’s out there courtesy of CBS4.
Dwyane Wade On Star Jones: “We’re Just Friends”
ATLANTA (AP) ― So what’s the deal between Star Jones and Dwyane Wade? There has been talk that the talk show host and the Miami Heat star are an item, even though there is a 20-year difference between them.
The subject was a topic for discussion when Wade appeared on “Inside the NBA.” He described his relationship with Jones as “friends, just like a lot of celebrities.”
Co-hosts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson weren’t going to let that slide. They kept pressing Wade for details, but he stuck to the “we’re just friends” story.
Wade is 26 and Jones is 46. He’s married with two kids and she recently filed for divorce. Never one to mince words, Barkley described Jones as a “cougar,” who was “preying on a young Dwyane Wade.” - www.cbs4.com
I found this record a long time ago at Bluenote Records. I still have it chillin’ in my crib (I’m an avid record collector by the way). But this compilation really shows you that Miami had some funky tunes even in the Motown era of music. A lot of classic breakbeats came from Miami-based musicians, including George Mcrae, Gwen Mcrae and Betty Wright (who’s not featured on this compilation). Download by clicking on the photo and/or clicking the link at the end of this post.
1. All The People – Cramp Your Style
2. Helene Smith – You Got To Be A Man
3. George Mccrae – I Get Lifted
4. James Knight And The Butlers – Funky Cat

6. Little Beaver – Funkadelic Sound

Rudi Goblin is 1/3 of Illiterats, ½ of The Mighty Mouths, part of the Parallax crew, one of the Flipside Kings (Breaking crew), and a member of D-Projects’ theater group. He just released his mixtape entitled Goulash Greens, which features members of his extended family and is currently in an upcoming theater production called Scratch and Burn. I got together with this dimensional emcee to see what makes him tick.

Nina Sky came and lit up Ft. Lauderdale beach a couple weeks back when they stopped by the “Hennessy Mansion” up in Ft. Lauderdale beach during the Latin Billboard Awards. Nina Sky has always been a mixshow favorite in Miami and have provided us with a couple hits. And while most know them as being beautiful twin sisters. Few know them as Nina Sky – The DJ’s. That’s right, they came into the spot and were spinning records for over two or three hours. And no lie, their set had to be one of the better sets I’ve seen and/or heard in years. Look out for an interview with them in the near future. Also, Mr. Mauricio (of Power 96 morning show fame) also followed suit after NIna Sky and rocked the special invited partygoers for the rest of the evening. Here are a couple photos that pretty much summarize the night…

Rumor Alert! According to MediaTakeOut.Com and MTV UK…Nasir Jones (NAS) and his fair lady Kelis are going to sue Miami. I think they “technically” might mean Miami Beach since that’s where last year’s “incident” happened in front of Jerry’s on the beach. Kelis was supposably wildin’ out and was booked in the slammer for being uncooperative with undercover police officers. Here’s what they’re saying of Kelis’ alleged intentions…but…again, its all rumors!

I know most of ya’ll don’t do the American Idol thing (I definitely don’t), but if you have a sister, a mother or cousin that does, make sure you put them on to Syesha Mercado, who’s representing South Florida this season and she’s all the way up in the “Final Few”. She’s originally from Sarasota, but most recently, she’s been attending FIU and has been in the South Florida area for the last couple years. So that makes her family. And besides that, this girl can definitely sing. Vote her to the top! – Picture above taken by Joe Wesley.

I’m a young buck so I was never put on to the whole Miami Vice phenomenon, but I’m sure I’ll be able to play catch up since NBC has now added the entire first season of the 80’s TV show to the online streaming section of their site (NBC Video Rewind).
Immortal Technique is a favorite among politically active hip-hoppers, and its been a couple years since we’ve seen an official album from Tech. And Miami’s been fiending for some new music from him since that insanely dope and insanely successful show that Revolution Hip Hop threw last year at Studio A.
Well, the wait is over as Immortal Technique’s new album The 3rd World is slated for a June 24th release. The album features production by Green Lantern, Southpaw, Buckwild and Scram Jones. while featuring guest spots are filled by Chino XL, Crooked I, RasKass, Psycho Realm and Diabolic.
As a fan of hip-hop, I am definitely curious to hear what Tech has to say nowadays because as you can already imagine, this has to be one of the most interesting political climates that any generation has seen and I’m sure Tech has a couple things to get off his chest. Plus, on a music level, everything that has been released from everybody else in the music game lately has been “safe”. We can definitely expect Tech to give us the opposite of that. Here’s a quick sypnosis (slash mini press release) of what to expect. Words are courtesy of our partners over at Public Wizard, who actually represent Tech…
Qwote is definitely an artist that you need to look out for. I’ve mentioned him before a couple weeks ago and again now because this dude has “superstar” written all over him. And of coarse, he’s straight from the three oh five. Check out this most recent press release sent by SNS and his PR firm.

Forgive me for the “Fugitive movie” image above but I had no pictures of the group to work with. So now, down to business. Here’s a new song by Miami group The Left-Outs. If you were a fan of the 80’s group Snarls Darkly, then you’ll love The Left-Outs.
The Left-Outs are comprised of Wrekonize, Myagi and Sharpsound. Look out for big things from these fellas in the near future. “Fugitive” is a dark sounding ode to the art of running. The song brings a refreshing sound that relies heavily on the always-impressive rhyme schemes that Wrekonize is known for, but is equally complimented by Myagi’s trademark croons and Sharpsound’s eclectic production.

Here’s an upcoming model from Miami. Her name is Anabelle Acosta. She’s half-Cuban and half-Brazilian and she was actually featured in a previous issue of 305 Magazine (our print affiliate). Photos below were done by David “DRO” Rosario, with make-up by Maria Fleita and styling by Angie Garcia…

Without even being in business for 5 months, you had the “The Best Barbershop In Miami” moniker attached to the newly-found Chop Shop Barbershop. It’s a tagline used by many of Chop Shop’s satisfied customers that have made sure to keep the barbershop’s name heavy in the streets. So what makes Chop Shop the unique phenomenon that many claim it is? It’s the result of a themed interior design that simply separates Chop Shop from every other barbershop in Miami, and probably the rest of the United States, even.

Even though the title of this post suggests otherwise, this is not the beginning of one of those “walk into a bar” jokes. This is an article on the above artists and an opportunity to hear some of their music. Every Thursday, we’ll try to give you a fresh taste of music. Whether locally based music or music from beyond our borders. And by “borders”, I mean the Dade County line of course…

Russell Simmons held a special fundraiser last weekend on Miami Beach. I was actually invited to the event to cover it, but I wasn’t in the mood for a suit and tie type of affair. But either way, when you have Russell Simmons, you’re sure to have tons of celebrity support. And what better cause than for the kids. Check out the following article talking about Russ’ worthy cause. Read below…
Just as expected, the first “annual” Heart & Sole shut down Miami’s PS14. Here are photos from the event PLUS a homeless guy gave me a job offer too good to refuse. Right.

A new magazine has stepped into the Miami art scene. Irreversible Magazine. I was actually doing a photoshoot over at Uncle Sam’s Records over on South Beach and I cruise by their magazine racks and see this gigantic poster-sized magazine overshadowing XXL, Fader, and pretty much everything else on the rack. It turned out later, that I know the designer that designs the magazine. All biasness aside, I can definitely say that the design is on point and even though it’s a new publication, the direction of Irreversible is going to definitely garner the attention of Miami’s elite art scenesters…that is, if it hasn’t already done so. Word-of-mouth travels fast. And word-of-blog travels even faster. So anyways, this Issue 02 cover is insane. There’s a big die-cut circle on the front cover and they snuggly fit a 45″ single in the cut circle of every magazine. And it turns out that every magazine has a different single placed in. That’s definitely a different and unique feature that I expect will give birth to alot of “shark biters” in the magazine game.
(Editor’s Note: “Shark Biters” is a term coined by Mi Gente Clothing, and in laymans terms it basically means you’re a biter, a fake, a fraud, a copy-cat, etc)
Subscribe to Irreversible by clicking here. And here’s a little preview of the issue with the 45″ single…Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
